“European Ceramic Context 2018”, Open Call

I am honoured to have been selected as one of two artists to represent Italy in this biennial exhibition. In “Jingdezhen Quintet”, as in music, each sculpture represents an individual sound/rhythm/colour. Variations on a theme based on a figurative matrix that aspires to go beyond this category and become form and colour that flows into abstraction. These figures are part of a hypothetical theogony that seeks to personify the concepts and phenomena most significant of our epoch. Appearing as if masks, relatives of the commedia dell’arte, caricatures of the primitive and eclectic aspects that despite their degraded vocation, they maintain an innocence and a candour attributable to the divine images of the origin of the world. A new theogony, emblem of our time, that in virtue of its symbolic nature extends beyond space and time.
