SCULPTURE
2022, Made at The Clay Studio
Philadelphia, PA

In the summer of 2022, I spent a month at The Clay Studio as guest artist. During that period, I continued the series that I had begun at Arch Contemporary in 2019/20. Utilising two 3D printed prototypes, I created a series slip-cast male and female figures that were modified using a myriad of ceramic techniques. The figures were completed with underglazes, glazes and the incorporation of slipped organic materials.
The final four images represent a new approach. For the first time, I used a 3D Potter to produce statues printed directly in clay. For this series, I focused on accepting the "mistakes" of the printer as aesthetic choices, integrating external supports, and utilising 3D printing for all of the elements.
