SIBYLS INSTALLATION

  

The "Sibyls" installation is composed of five sculptural elements assembled in glazed terracotta which evoke the figures of the five sibyls represented in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: the Cumaean, the Libyan, the Persian, the Delphic and the Erythraean.

Traditionally the sibyl is a mysterious figure with prophetic qualities, a link between the divine spirit and men. The installation, in addition to giving the sibyls a personal and arbitrary expressive version, creates an aesthetic update and formal evolution of an archetype that belongs to the collective imagination. In particular, the use of the sibyl aims to emphasise the magical and sacred aspect of reality in striking contrast with the materialistic logic of current consumer society which is sacrificing nature on the altar of civilisation due to man's inability to foresee the consequences of his actions and the impact they have on the earth. Thus, beyond citationism, the sibyl represents the missing part of contemporary man, an auspicious symbol of divining the future, an image of wisdom, a model of prediction and farsightedness, protector of the natural heritage of which it is an integral part together with the mineral, vegetable and animal elements.

L'installazione "Sibille" è composta di cinque elementi scultorei assemblati in terracotta smaltata che evocano le figure delle cinque sibille rappresentato nella cappella sistina michelangiolesca: la Cumana, la Libica, la Persica, la Delfica, l'Eritrea. 

Tradizionalmente la sibilla è una figura misteriosa dalle qualità profetiche, un tramite tra lo spirito divino e gli uomini. L'installazione, oltre a darne una versione espressiva personale ed arbitraria, crea un aggiornamento estetico ed un'evoluzione formale di un archetipo appartenente all'immaginario collettivo. In particolare, l'utilizzo della sibilla vuole mettere in evidenza l'aspetto magico e sacro della realtà in contrasto stridente con le logiche materialistiche dell’attuale società dei consumi che sta sacrificando la natura sull'altare della civiltà per incapacità dell'uomo di prevedere le conseguenze delle sue azioni e l'impatto che hanno sulla terra. Così al di là del citazionismo la sibilla rappresenta la parte mancante dell'uomo contemporaneo, simbolo d'auspicio ad essere veggenti, immagine di saggezza, modello di previsione e lungimiranza, protettore del patrimonio naturale di cui è parte integrante insieme alle specie minerale vegetale e animale.
